The West of England's 50th Anniversary Show on the
19th, 20th and 21st of August was a huge success for all involved.
Especially for the Stoneman Steam Team. On the 18th at 6:30pm, the
first ever run with a steam motorcycle built by Gerry Stoneman ably assisted
by Simon Caudwell and The Stoneman Steam Team took on the challenge to
complete four laps on the Wall Of Death ridden by the supremo Ken Fox.
Over the course of the weekend the steam powered motorcycle was used for a
further six runs to a capacity crowd. Of which Ken Fox had no increase
in admission prices for his spectacular performance. All of this would
not have been possible if not for the challenge being set in the first place
and also the sponsorship of Stoneman Engineering in Willand
(www.stoneman-engineering.co.uk),
Morris Oils of Shrewsbury and Jeffery Harris Tyres of Liskeard.
Team members, Gerry Stoneman,
Simon Caudwell, Wayne Turner, William Alford and Mathew Stoneman where all
present for the event. Moral support given by the Steam Car Club inc.
Ann Stoneman (Gerrys wife), Hayden & Joy Davies and Peter Williams.
Many thanks especially to Mr. Ken Fox and his team for making
all this possible.
The £1000.00 prize was donated as follows:
£500.00 - Chestnut Appeal
£50.00 Collected from the show floor after the event -
Chestnut Appeal
£500.00 - Wall Of Death restoration project.
The steam machine can next be
seen at Westpoint Motorcycle Show on the 27th & 28th August 2005. Also
at the Great Dorset Steam Fair on 31st August, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th
September.
